Armenian–French Scientific Conference of Radiologists

03 Dec 2016

The Armenian Radiological Association, in collaboration with Nairi Medical Center, held an Armenian–French scientific conference on December 4–6, 2016, dedicated to the challenges of diagnosing epilepsy in both children and adults.

Speakers included Dr. Nicolas Mangeot de Chanffeld from Montpellier University Hospital (France), neurologist Dr. Karen Mkhitaryan from the Côbe-Esson Clinic (Paris, France), as well as leading Armenian specialists — neurologist Dr. Nune Yeghiazaryan from Erebouni Medical Center and Dr. Biana Sukhudyan from Arabkir Medical Center.

The participants discussed the current issues in epilepsy diagnosis and treatment in Armenia, while the French experts presented the latest diagnostic and therapeutic technologies used in France and across Europe.

During the conference, leading radiologists and neurologists agreed to adopt a unified MRI protocol for epilepsy diagnosis in Armenia.

The invited experts performed a technical modification of the MRI system at Nairi Medical Center and introduced a new diagnostic protocol, which allows for shorter scanning times and higher image quality. This protocol fully complies with international standards.

Under the new approach, 20 patients of different age groups with suspected epilepsy underwent MRI examinations at Nairi Medical Center. Most of them had previously been scanned in Armenia and abroad without confirmed diagnoses, but with the new protocol, the pathology was successfully detected and documented.

Patients expressed their satisfaction with the professionalism of the medical team and the precision of the new diagnostic methods.

The MRI-based epilepsy diagnostic protocol, aligned with international standards, will henceforth be applied at Nairi Medical Center on a permanent basis, enhancing diagnostic accuracy and improving the quality of epilepsy imaging in Armenia.
